An aeroglobe, able to go far beyond the earth's atmosphere, is sent aloft. From their hiding place, Jack, Betty, Uncle Jim, and Billy realize a great scientific experiment is in progress. They make their way into the Fire Pit, the berth of the aeroglobe. The spaceship descends into the pit with the entire Fairfield party about to be crushed by the 170 tons of dead weight.
