A Literary Classic by ANTON CHEKHOV.

The Lady with the Dog and Other Stories by RUSSIAN author ANTON CHEKHOV is a collection of short stories first published in 1899 in RUSSIA. The title story of this collection, "The Lady with the Dog," tells an illicit love affair between two persons married to others, thought to reflect events of Chekhov's life.

Sneak Peak

'IT was said that a new person had appeared on the sea-front: a lady with a little dog. Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov, who had by then been a fortnight at Yalta, and so was fairly at home there, had begun to take an interest in new arrivals. Sitting in Verney's pavilion, he saw, walking on the sea-front, a fair-haired young lady of medium height, wearing a béret; a white Pomeranian dog was running behind her.'

	About the Author

Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), a Russian playwright and short story writer, is considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time. He was a key figure of early modernism in the theatre and also wrote hundreds of short stories, while working in his profession as a medical doctor. "The Lady with the Dog," the title story of this collection, is among his most famous stories. At the time this story was written, in 1899, Chekhov had already fallen in love with an actress, Olga Knipper, whom he would later marry.
