Ed spends his life preparing for a disaster that may never come. Ronnie spends her life shopping for things she may never use. In a small town somewhere in America, they try to find love while trying not to get lost in each other's stuff.

Harry gets a transmission from the Big Giant Head: the mission has received a sub-standard evaluation, and the BGH is on his way to Earth to check things out. The aliens go into panic mode, each blaming the other for the shortcomings of the mission.

It finally dawns on Dick, Harry and Tommy that their apartment has become a wreck since Sally moved out. They suggest to Sally that she still might like to do their cleaning, but she wants no part of it. When Dick asks Mary to clean for them, she refuses, but she does give him the phone number of Cathy, her maid.

Mary is concerned that she and Dick don't communicate well, so they go to a New Age couples' retreat accompanied by Harry and Vicki. Meanwhile, in an Italian restaurant, Sally catches the eye of a tough-looking guy and soon, he's sending flowers and asking her out.

Harry's kidnapper has sold him to a carnival freak show where he is billed as "Hargo the Alien," and his transmissions from the Big Giant Head are a huge hit.

Since the last episode, the aliens are in a parallel universe in New York. Dick, unhappy in his career as a high-powered attorney, walks into a dive on 48th Street and finds the love of his life. Tommy is a big success on "Saturday Night Live," while Harry is a network executive. And Sally is sleeping with the mayor.

Dick feels devastated and alone, deserted by his alien crewmates. While sitting in his Rambler convertible in a field, Harry, Sally and Tommy appear beside the car with Janet, a wife for Dick sent by the Big Giant Head. They explain that the BGH thinks that Dr. Albright is distracting Dick from his duties.

Dick is poking around in Mary's dresser and discovers some love letters signed "Scoochie." Dick reads the letters to Harry and Sally, and they all agree that they're brilliant.
